ADHD Procrastination Hacks: Stop Avoiding and Start Doing

Be honest — did you open this email immediately or let it sit in your inbox while you scrolled TikTok, stared at a wall, or did literally anything else? No judgment. I've done it a million times.

Procrastination is practically an Olympic sport when you have ADHD. But here’s a fun fact: procrastination isn’t about being lazy or bad at time management (despite what the internet trolls might say).

Science says it’s often an emotional regulation problem.

We don’t avoid tasks because we’re irresponsible — we avoid them because they trigger some kind of discomfort. Maybe it’s:

😨 Anxiety (What if I mess it up? What if I say the wrong thing?)
😵 Overwhelm (There are so many steps, where do I even start?)
😬 Perfectionism (If I can’t do it perfectly, why bother?)
🤯 Decision paralysis (Too many choices = brain freeze)
🤢 Sensory avoidance (Touching raw chicken to cook dinner? Blech.)

So instead of dealing with that discomfort, our brains say, “You know what sounds way better? Cleaning the entire house! Researching medieval sword-making! Watching one more episode!”

And boom — we’re stuck in the procrastination loop.

In last week’s episode of ADHD Adult(ish), I dive into:

✅ The emotional roots of procrastination
✅ The sneaky (and creative) ways ADHD brains avoid tasks
✅ ADHD-friendly strategies to break the cycle

If you’re tired of watching your to-do list collect dust, look for the episode where ever you prefer to like to get your podcasts, or click here to listen now.

The Weekly Level Up Let's level up our ADHD lives a little, shall we? I recently sat down with Amy Stone on The Art of Imperfect Adulting to talk about what it’s like to discover you have ADHD as an adult — and how that diagnosis connected so many dots I didn’t even know were related. We covered a lot, including: 🧩Putting the pieces together: How the challenges my oldest kiddo faced in school led me to discover my own ADHD at the age of 39. 🌀 Getting Diagnosed: The profound impact that...

The Weekly Level Up Let's level up our ADHD lives a little, shall we? I’ve been dreaming about this for two years — and now it’s finally happening. For the last few weeks, I’ve been quietly building something that ADHDers like us have needed for a long time: a way to get real support, strategies, and community without having to fight our brains (or a damn social media algorithm) to do it. Progress Beats Perfection

The Weekly Level Up Let's level up our ADHD lives a little, shall we? One of the most common questions I get is: “So … what is ADHD coaching, exactly?” And sure, I’ve got the FAQ-style answer on my website. (You can read it here, if you’re the practical type.) But the real answer? The one that matters most to me personally? It’s this: ADHD coaching is about finally being able to see yourself. Not the mask you’ve had to wear to get through the day. Not the mess or the missed deadlines or the...
